2 Days at Sea

Friday, 7 Feb 2020 – We finished breakfast just in time for the mandatory lifeboat drill at 10:15 AM.  There, we met Phyllis, who is cruising around the world, and another nearby couple, Marvin & Nicole, from Jacksonville, FL.  Nicole remembered us from the 2018 cruise, when they cruised from Cape Town to Singapore.  They are still working; he is an oral surgeon and she works in his office.  They are cruising to Santiago.  After the drill, since Sally hadn’t slept well, she napped until lunch.
 Oceania Award Ceremony
At 5:45 PM, we got all dressed up and went to the “exclusive” Oceania Club private cocktail party.  We sat at a table with Canute & Julie, and Bruce & Pam, from Chicago.  They are also ballroom dancers after starting lessons about 10 years ago.  We received complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, and danced for 30 minutes before the ceremony began.  During the ceremony, we were awarded gold pins for reaching Oceania’s Gold Club level.  Afterwards, we went to dinner with Julie & Canute, where we ate in the Grand Dining Room for the first time on this cruise.  On our way to the dining room, Canute introduced us to Jim Jenkins.  He and his wife had also received an award during the ceremony for reaching a much higher Oceania Club level.
On the Dance Floor
Saturday, 8 Feb 2020 – We barely made it to breakfast before closing time, and then waited until 12:35 PM to go swimming.  Although the pool was pretty rough, we managed to swim for 30 minutes.  Other passengers kept getting in the pool, but none stayed very long.  We managed to make it to the Terrace Café just in time for lunch.
At 3:00 PM, the ship held another “crossing the equator” ceremony.  Since we had witnessed this ceremony many times, we opted not to attend.  Jesse did go up to Deck 10 and snap a few photos of the activity below.  Since a second “exclusive” Oceania Club private cocktail party was being held, there was no pre-dinner dancing.  Dancing was scheduled much later in the Horizon, but we opted out.
