Wednesday, 6 Dec 2023 – We were scheduled to dock at Harvest Caye, Belize at 8:00 AM. Belize is a nation on the eastern coast of Central America, with Caribbean Sea shorelines to the east and dense jungle to the west. Belize achieved its independence from the United Kingdom, but retained its membership in the Commonwealth. Offshore, the massive Belize Barrier Reef is dotted with hundreds of low-lying islands called cayes. Harvest Caye is a private island owned by Norwegian Cruise Line, located in southern Belize. The caye features wildlife exhibitions including a blue morpho butterfly house and a seven-acre pristine beach with stunning white powder sand and crustal clear waters.
We went to our usual breakfast in the Terrace
Café. Sally hadn’t slept well and felt
like she might be coming down with a cold.
So, after breakfast, she went back to bed and Jesse took a shuttle into
Harvest Caye. There was much there to
see, so he walked through all of the shops, took a few photos, and boarded the
shuttle back to the ship. He was gone
for less than an hour!
Afterwards, it was definite that Sally had come
down with a cold. So, she took a cold
pill and slept most of the afternoon; then we went to the Terrace Café for
dinner, with a “Chef’s Market” menu for a second day. The cold pills did an excellent good job of
masking her cold symptom, so she wasn’t coughing or sneezing in the dining
room. Jesse watched TV and worked on his
laptop while Sally was napping. And of
course, we skipped dancing for the night!
